Cara Shousterman comes to the world of media and information dynamics by way of sociolinguistics, the study of language as it functions in society. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from New York University, where she researched a dialect of English spoken in Spanish Harlem. Her work has appeared in the journals English Today and The Journal of English Linguistics, as well as in the Oxford Handbook of African American Language. She came to join the Harmony team through a fellowship granted by the American Council for Learned Societies. In her free time, Cara can usually be found obsessing over her adorable baby girl or practicing aerial dance.
